Nut Graf

A Nut Graf is the meat of the story. It explains all the smaller details from the lead paragraph, and gives more of the fluff and the details. The Nut Graf gives all the extra information that you want to know about the subject. Traditionally, the Nut Graf is not used in hard news stories, and more often than not are used in inspirational or interesting, fun topics, where hard facts isn't the end goal, but has more interesting 'fluff' pieces. A Nut Graf is the point in the news story when the reader should have the question "Why do I care?" answered. The Nut Graf reinforces the knowledge and end theme of the article.
The Nut Graf connects the lead with a transition and explains how the different points in the article connect back to the main thesis and conclusion. The Nut Graf explains the news value, and needs to be strong to show that when in the real world, with competitors and other contrasting articles, you need a strong nut graf to prove why your facts and story is stronger and more accurate than anyone else's.  The nut graf should have the biggest impact on the reader's knowledge and opinion of the story, being the strongest part of the article.
