Student of the Month Story

Positioned in front of me with sandy blonde hair and a trademark infectious laugh, is Chris Lamm, James Bowie High School's April 2017 Student of the Month. Lamm has incredible scores on tests and quizzes, and has an apparent care for school. Apart from having an earnest outlook on school, Lamm is not your typical Student of the Month. Although he is serious when it comes to his schoolwork, Chris doesn't just get flawless grades, and cram before big tests, but he takes time to form an opinion about the literature in English, understand the equations in Math, and appreciate conjugations in Spanish. He forms his own way of thinking, and that's what makes him such a great student. 

We've established that Lamm is a forward thinker, but that's not all he does. Lamm is also involved in after school commitments including our very own Starlight Theater Company here at Bowie High School. He has participated in many time consuming shows and rehearsals after school, including the school's spring musical production of "The Who's: Tommy." He not only has rehearsals after school, but also on the weekends to perfect the performances. Lamm says he's developed time management skills from balancing his extracurriculars with his time consuming classes and courses. Participating in activities at school has helped him make new friends that he can spend time with in Theater, and in other classes. "I like coming to school because I get to spend time with my friends," is what Lamm said when asked if he enjoyed coming to school.

"Chris Lamm's great grades and participation in class is what earned him our April Student of the Month slot," stated Bowie's Principal Mrs. Leos. To further understand what academics and devotion go into maintaining such a high GPA and attendance, I asked Chris some more academic questions. Unlike many Freshman at Bowie, Lamm admits he does study for exams and quizzes. He claims he does his best studying alone, usually rereading notes and either quizzing himself, or having a family member ask him questions. Usually he studies in silence to keep his concentration, but when it comes to a creative project when he may be coloring or building something, he enjoys having music in the background. Chris likes to check in with his grades and teachers, which is why is favorite school app is TEAMS Mobile, which allows him to access this information quickly and easily.

Chris has developed an interest in Biology, and is intrigued with plants and wildlife. Although Lamm is not sure what his college plans are, we can all be sure he'll go far with whatever he chooses to do with his future.
